Monte Carlo Country Club is the home of the Monte-Carlo Masters tournament. The stadium was built in 1928 and is located outside Monaco in the Roquebrune Cap Martin area ; it has a capacity of 10,200 spectators. Besides being the home of the Monte Carlo tournament, it is also the base of the Monte Carlo Tennis Academy.
The tournament has been held since 1897 and has been open to all tennis players since 1969. The tournament falls into the category “ATP World Tour 1000”, which is the highest category of the ATP. The tournament is the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament on the ATP calendar ahead of Roland-Garros.
Rafael Nadal holds the most singles titles at ATP Monte Carlo. He has won the tournament no less than 11 times followed by Reginald Doherty who won it 6 times between 1897 and 1904.
