San Siro is without a doubt one of the most iconic football stadiums in the world. Opened in 1926, it now has a capacity of over 75,000 spectators. With its impressive tiers, steep stands and distinctive towers, it makes a huge impression even from the outside. Inside, a unique football experience awaits: you are close to the pitch and the atmosphere is intense and immersive from the very first moment. During top matches, the stadium turns into a roaring wall of sound where every action is felt. The stadium is shared with Inter Milan, but on AC Milan matchdays it is completely dressed in red and black, breathing pure club history.
Please note: the current San Siro is on the verge of major change. The clubs have plans to eventually replace most of the stadium with a new, modern arena on the same site. Until then, it remains in use, meaning you still have one of the last chances to experience this football icon in its current form.
By metro 🚇
The fastest and most commonly used option on matchdays. Take metro line M5 (purple) towards San Siro Stadio. From the final stop, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to San Siro.
Line M1 (red) to Lotto is also a good option; from there it’s about a 15–20 minute walk or a short transfer by tram or bus.
By tram 🚋
Tram line 16 is a popular choice and stops directly at the stadium. It runs from the city centre and takes you almost to the stadium entrance.
By train 🚆
Travel to stations such as Milano Centrale or Porta Garibaldi. From there, you can easily transfer to the metro towards San Siro. Ideal if you are coming from outside the city.
By bus 🚌
Several city bus lines connect the centre with San Siro, but on matchdays they are often busier and slower than the metro or tram.
On foot🚶
From nearby districts such as Lotto or De Angeli, the stadium is within walking distance. The closer you get to San Siro, the more red and black you’ll see around you — the perfect build-up to kick-off.
👉 Tip: Arrive at least 90 minutes before the match. Around San Siro, the matchday atmosphere starts early, with fans, food and music filling the streets.

Before kick-off, the experience already begins in the streets of Milan. Fans of AC Milan gather in bars, cafés and squares across the city to build up to the match together. The real matchday atmosphere often starts hours before the game, with singing, discussing line-ups and the excitement steadily building.
Around San Siro itself, you’ll mainly find fan bars and meeting points where home supporters come together. On matchdays, the area around the stadium is clearly dressed in red and black and fully taken over by the fans. One of the best-known fan hotspots is Bar San Siro, a popular meeting place within walking distance of the stadium where supporters gather for a drink and the pre-match build-up.
Other well-known spots in the area include:
Bar Derby Milano – Piazza Axum, close to the stadium
Chiosco San Siro – informal snack and drink spot around the stadium area
Bars in the Lotto district – popular meeting points for fans travelling via metro line M5
👉 Tip: Arrive early in the San Siro area. The closer you get to the stadium, the stronger the atmosphere becomes, from local bars to a growing stream of red and black heading towards the entrances.
