Borussia Mönchengladbach als known as Mönchengladbach or Gladbach and is a professional football club based in Mönchengladbach, Germany. Gladbach plays in the Bundesliga, the highest level of German football. The club has won five League titles, three DFB-Pokals, and two UEFA Europa League titles.
Gladbach was one of the most successful clubs in Germany during the sixties and seventies and along with Bayern München, Borussia Mönchengladbach was the team which epitomized German football at that time. Although their successes have diminished, the club still has the most amazing and passionate fans, who can create an atmosphere guaranteed to raise the hairs on the back of your neck.
The club’s main rivals are FC Köln, against whom they contest the Rheinland Derby. This rivalry took a little while to get going but, once lit, it has since burned as hot as any in German rivalry.
Their secondary rivals include Borussia Dortmund, Fortuna Düsseldorf, and Bayer Leverkusen.
Borussia-Park in Mönchengladbach is their home stadium and was built in 2004 to replace the old (and smaller) Bökelberg. It has a capacity of 54,000, with great views from every section.
The noisiest hardcore fans gather in the lower section of the Nordkurve, which is a standing only section.
Borussia-Park is located on the south-western edge of the city of Mönchengladbach, slightly more than 4 kilometres from the city centre and about one kilometre more from the city’s main railway station.
