The Chinese Grand Prix is back on the 2027 Formula One calendar. In the Chinese metropolis of Shanghai, 56 laps have to be completed over a distance of 305.066 km. The fastest lap of all time is still held by seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher. In 2004, he did just 1:32.238 over one lap.
The first thing that stands out about the track is its design. If you look from the air, you will see that the track is designed after the Chinese symbol ‘Shang’ which means up. Also the first letter of the Chinese city of Shanghai, where the race takes place. Unique to the circuit are the increasingly narrow turns 1 and 2 where the drivers dive in from the start. One of the longest straights in Formula 1 is found between corners 13 and 14. At 1.2 km long, this is where top speed undoubtedly makes the difference.
