This tournament has been held since 1897 and has been open to all tennis players since 1969. The tournament falls into the “ATP World Tour 1000” category, which is the highest category of the ATP. This tournament is the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament on the ATP calendar ahead of Roland-Garros.
Rafael Nadal holds the most singles titles at Monte-Carlo Masters. He has won the tournament no less than 11 times followed by Reginald Doherty who managed to win it 6 times between 1897 and 1904.
Monte Carlo Country Club is the home of the tournament. Built in 1928, the stadium is located outside Monaco in the Roquebrune Cap Martin area and can accommodate 10,200 spectators. Besides being the home of the Monte-Carlo Masters, it is also the base of the Monte Carlo Tennis Academy.
