Club Brugge is a professional football club from Bruges which plays in the first division A. The Belgian top club was founded on November 13 1891, under the name Brugsche FC.

Club Brugge is one of the most successful clubs in Belgium. In Belgium, only RSC Anderlecht captured more national titles (34) than Club Brugge (18). No other club won more cups and supercups.

The rivals of Club Brugge

Gent
Club Brugge have a fierce rivalry with KAA Gent. The match between KAA Gent and Club Brugge is also known as the “Battle of Flanders”, because the competitors are the two cultural capitals of Flanders.

Anderlecht
The second rival is RSC Anderlecht. The rivalry between these two teams has arisen because the matches are often crucial and ferocious. The rivalry was clearly visible during a match in 2002, when three red cards were handed out. This match was also called the ‘Match of Shame’ by the supporters.

Cercle Brugge
Bruges rivalry! Bruges’ city partner Cercle Brugge is also seen as a rival of Club Brugge. It is one of the most intense rivalries in Belgium.

The stadium of Club Brugge

The home ground of Club Brugge is the Jan Breydel Stadium. The stadium was built in 1975 and can accommodate over 29,000 people. However, Club Brugge does have the ambition to build a new modern football stadium. The new stadium will be built on the site of the current Jan Breydel Stadium, and will have to accommodate more than 40,000 spectators.
